FIELD DAY 2009!!!!!!!

(June 26-28th)

That's right - the weekend we look forward to all year is just a few days away, and we're looking forward to another great weekend of camping, camaraderie, and of course amateur radio.  (scroll down for **items needed**)

This year, once again we will be located at Dutchess County’s Bowdoin Park, (pavilion 4) situated at 85 Sheafe Rd in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  Click here for Map and see directions below, also at the QSY website at http://www.qsysociety.org

Bathroom facilities are available, as is water, a covered pavilion and flat parking lot.    We'll be getting to the site around 2:00 pm Friday, and as we have done in the past we are opting for the 18:00 UTC (14:00 Local) set-up time.  Anyone available to help would be MORE than welcome!  We will commence operating at 18:00 UTC Saturday (14:00 Local) and operate for the legal 24 hour period.

We will be operating in category 3A, meaning three HF stations.  Additionally, we will have a VHF/UHF station.  This will allow for a combination of CW, digital, and phone operating.  Remember that even if your current license doesn't provide HF privileges, you WILL be able to operate HF under the club callsign – K2QS - if you desire (as long as a control operator of the appropriate license class is present, which should be the case all weekend).

We will also operate a GOTA station – that’s Get On The Air – to be operated only by novices and inactive hams, with an experienced operator available for coaching.  Don’t by shy!!  We’d like to see as many different operators as possible participating. GOTA station will be using callsign KC2BNX.

Also if you want you can bring your favorite headphones, mike, keyer, etc. for operating.

We will again have an information table set up with literature and information about amateur radio and the QSY Society.  Get a free cup of coffee with the purchase of a QSY coffee mug!   Raffle tickets available, too!

We will be using MBARC 146.970 (PL 100) as the repeater to coordinate talk-in for those of use who will be going there for the first time.

Joining us on Saturday will be the staffed emergency communications vehicles of the Dutchess County Red Cross and the Dutchess County Emergency Response Vehicle, which will be available for tour.

While operating is the main attraction at Field Day, please remember that any help you can provide setting up Friday and breaking things down Sunday would be greatly appreciated.

What would Field Day be without FOOD?  As usual, we have a menu planned for the major meals throughout the weekend, but in case anyone wants to bring something and hasn't already committed to any one particular meal, please keep in mind that beverages of all sorts (non-alcoholic, please) will be most welcome.  It is going to be much warmer this weekend than over the recent weeks and working on the radio can certainly work up a thirst!  A good supply of drink will go a long way towards keeping everyone hydrated and happy...

Shirley N2SKP is heading up the coordination of food and will be bringing paper goods, coffee and condiments.  This year, everyone is asked to help out particularly for Saturday Lunch!

The menu:       Friday night: PIZZA  Saturday: breakfast- Sausage gravy & biscuits, scrambled eggs, lunch- burgers & dogs, dinner- Spaghetti w/meatballs. Sunday: breakfast- Bacon & eggs, lunch- potluck

*Please note that while the "chefs" are responsible for putting the main courses together, everyone is welcome to contribute to these meals, either by bringing side dishes, cooking, cleaning, and of course, EATING!

**ITEMS NEEDED**

Everyone is invited to bring coolers, ice, water, beverages, snacks, dessert, or any food that would complement the above menus!

Coolers & Ice -  We always need as many as possible...

Charcoal & lighter fluid for Saturday and Sunday lunch

Cash donations: to reimburse the chefs for food and the club for the site rental. Remember, we still have no dues and rely on 50/50s and contributions!

… and Raffle tickets, Raffle tickets!

Remember to mark anything you bring with your callsign.  We want to make sure everything goes back home with whoever brought it.

Don't forget your personal supplies for the weekend either:

Sleeping bags, air mattresses, tents.

Snacks, drinks (non-alcoholic)

Sense of humor (If you're a QSY member, that's a given...)

Name badges

Spouse (Don't pack too tightly)

Friends

Children (the future of amateur radio)

A smile (if you show up without one, you're sure to have one before long...)

If you have any questions or comments, send an email to John at n2qmt@yahoo.com
